These types of portraits require quite a bit more shooting time & editing time, which is the reason for the difference in fee. Newborns are best if scheduled in the first 14 days of life, and it is not unusual for sessions to be 3-4 hours long due to breaks for feedings, set-up changes, etc. I happily include family & sibling shots as part of a newborn package if that is desired. Senior sessions include one general location and multiple outfit changes. Sessions typically run about 2 hours, although I do not enforce a time limit. Any of these sessions can take place outdoors on-location, in the comfort of your own home OR at a private studio space that can be reserved for an extra fee. How do I book a photo session?
You can email or Facebook message me to discuss details and get any questions answered. Once we decide the date you would like to book, I'll send you a contract via email for you to sign, with invoice for the $30 retainer fee.
When is payment due?
I humbly request the remainder of the session be paid at the time of the photo session. I do not start editing your gallery until payment is received. This can be done by cash, check, or credit.
When will I receive my photos?
I typically post sneak peeks on Facebook within 24 hours of my sessions for you to tag, use on your profile & share with friends and family. (Please let me know if you would prefer your session not be featured on social media.) Full editing of your gallery is completed within 2 weeks, and I will let you know if that time frame cannot be met.
How many photos are included in a session?
My normal sessions tend to produce at least 60 images because I shoot a combination of traditionally posed & candid moments. This will obviously fluctuate depending on the factors of the session. More often than not, I provide many more than that number. It is my personal belief that you are paying for my time, and in return I provide as many shots as I can from our time together.
Do you offer mini sessions?
I host mini session events several times a year, typically in the spring and again in the fall and at the holidays. I do not offer mini session pricing year-round, it is only during these special mini session events. Watch my FB page for information - they tend to book fast!
What is a digital download?
Once photos are complete, I will email you a link to your online gallery. From there you can download the images to your computer, and upload them/store them as you see fit. Your gallery will remain active for one month. Extra charges may apply if I have to relist your gallery and resend them to you.
Do you offer prints?
In addition to receiving your high-resolution images to print where you choose, you do have an option to order professional prints, canvases & other products directly from your gallery. I use a professional lab, so the quality you will be getting is far superior to regular consumer labs.
Where is your studio?
Many of you will remember that for years I had a studio space in my basement, but due to our growing family and having a smaller home, we needed that space again. There are several studios available in the area to rent for approximately $25-35 an hour and because of that, I decided to dismantle my home studio.
Where do you typically shoot at?
I live in southwest Grand Rapids and do tend to stick around that part of town, but I am open to going all over the city! I have a location guide I can send you of my most popular West Michigan locations - both indoor & outdoor - to give you someplace to start. But new places always excite me, so feel free to share any ideas you may have as well.
Do you photograph weddings?
Because my children are still young and in sports on the weekends, and because I work part-time 2 days a week outside the home as well as do family photography, I made the decision not to take on weddings. I've shot a few weddings, as you may see on this site, but they were only for close family & friends who had very small weddings. I don't feel have the resources to take on such large projects, as most weddings use two shooters, multiple cameras and provide all-day coverage. I leave that to the many capable wedding photographers in and around West Michigan. :) Ask me for my favorites and I will be happy to tell you names!
Are you a real business?
Always make sure you check to see if your photographer is licensed and is running a legitimate business! Yes, Katie Cook Photography is a registered LLC with the State of Michigan and yes, I pay taxes as part of that business. I also have updated business insurance.
